Google and Tele Atlas have joined forces to product one of the best looking Internet map services out their. http://maps.google.com The interface is Google simple as always with a minimal amount of interaction to retrieve the information you want. A simple search no Saint Ex Washington DC reveals the location of my restaurant. Small light bulbs are displayed on the map to provide you the location of the results. If one were to be clicked, the interface displays a call-out box with a map of the intersection. This cal lout has a shadow which is kinda cool. It also has an origin destination tool to plot you path. This interface uses the same base map data as www.map24.com but with a different interface. Enjoy and Google some more.
There will be a new toy in the Schierkolk arsenal in the coming days. I made the leap and bought a GPS for my personal use. I think I am going to start tagging pictures with location information. I might also use it for navigation. Geocaching seems fun so there is a third option. If you need anything located give me a call.
This is one of the best location and routing maps that I have seen in a long time. The company Mapsolute is based in Europe. This is evident by the European style of design in the map content. The site is easy to use as well as being aesthetically pleasing. The dynamic zoom is a much welcome addition with a near real time map refresh. This technology is similar from the users standpoint to what keyhole has had success with. There is a small applet download to your machine but this takes place in a matter of seconds for a reasonable connection. I think this will be my new default for location and routing services.
